Okay first of all since these things are some sort of evil glass monster, seeing them physically smashing them is making me cringe. That has got to hurt.
Second, you have seen that they reform. What if smashing them just gives you more to fight? You’re going to be all cut up, bleeding, and exhausted all while a never ending army surrounds you.

Today’s featured hand detail is this scene of Galaxia and Usagi from episode 200, Usagi’s Love! The Moonlight Lights Up the Galaxy.
Rather than fighting Galaxia in order to defeat Chaos, Usagi chooses to appeal to the kind-hearted Senshi she knows still lives on inside Galaxia’s soul. Using the light of the Silver Crystal, Usagi breaks through Chaos’ hold on Galaxia and finds the real Galaxia inside, who is seen standing in a field surrounded by the many Star Seeds she has taken while under Chaos’ control. Realizing that she loves the world as well, and now at least having hope once more, this Galaxia reaches out to Usagi and the warm, sweet light that the Silver Crystal is giving off, even within the depths of her consciousness. Usagi reaches back in turn, and grasps the hand of the physical Galaxia, who still appears in her Chaos form. Galaxia screams as Chaos is banished from her body, but her hand continues to hold tightly on to Usagi’s.
This scene really highlights the focus that there is in Sailor Moon on the symbolism of holding another person’s hand. Usagi has come a long way in her journey, and this scene shows that so well. Rather than fighting the “enemy” as she did when she first became Sailor Moon, instead she has chosen to extend her hand toward them, an act of trust and intimacy. And it is this display of love and respect that breaks Chaos’ hold on Galaxia, just as a small gesture could have a huge positive influence on someone in real life.
The theme of reaching for another person is seen throughout the series— Mamoru reaching to find his past, Usagi reaching out to the brainwashed Mamoru to return him to his senses, Michiru and Haruka reaching for each other… Even here, where Usagi has supposedly come to the end of her journey, she is still seen to be reaching— searching for something more, to find the good in the hearts of others, and spread her positive outlook on life to those who have greater difficulty seeing things that way.
